Find out why Smith’s Luau was named “Best Luau on the Island” by The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook: Kauai Revealed, 5th edition. What’s unique about this luau is its setting. Smith’s Luau is the only luau in Hawaii that is set in a botanical garden. Here you will be surrounded by 30 acres of lush landscapes in the sacred Wailua River Valley, which was once reserved for Hawaiian royalty. Enjoy lagoons teeming with a variety of fish and exotic peacocks and view over 20 types of tropical fruits in their orchard.

After your shell lei greeting, you will have time to stroll through their gardens or take a narrated tram tour. Later on you will witness the traditional imu ceremony, in which the kalua pig is unearthed from the underground oven. Afterward, enjoy a glass of wine, beer or Mai Tai tropical drink at the open bar while the Smith family entertains you with Hawaiian songs.

Then it is time for the pa‘ina, the luau feast. Sample authentic Hawaiian delicacies, such as lomi lomi salmon, fresh poi, kalua pig (from the imu ceremony), teriyaki beef, mahi mahi (island fish), chicken, Hawaiian sweet potato, garden isle greens, island fruits, macaroni salad, namasu salad and mouthwatering tropical desserts.

As the Smith’s say, food may be the heart of a luau, but music is the soul. After the feast, your evening will continue with the "Golden People of Hawaii Festival of Dances" show featuring Hawaiian hula, Tahitian drum dances, traditional dances from New Zealand, China, Japan, the Philippines and the exciting Samoan fire-knife dance. The show takes place in their spacious, torch-lit “Pele Amphitheater,” which even has an erupting volcano!

Optional Golf Tournament - $95 per person

contact Kathy Anchors-Budd at kanchors@ncuma.com for golf sign-up information.

Although it's tempting to rest on laurels, Kauai Lagoons Golf Club is making enhancements to its crown jewel - the Kiele Course. Upon completion, the new Kiele Course will boast more ocean holes than any other course in Hawaii. In the meantime, golfers can enjoy a memorable and well manicured 18-hole layout comprised of a mix of former Mokihana and Kiele holes. The current finishing hole is 431 yard par 4 Jack Nicklaus aptly named the "Bear". Playing into the prevailing tradewinds to an island green, this hole will test the skill and nerve of every golfer.

Non-Participant Fern Grotto Wailua River Cruise - Included with NP Registration

During a two mile river journey of the Wailua River Valley, you’ll hear songs and stories of ancient Hawaii —like the King’s Highway, sacred Mount Kapu, and the First Hau Tree. In addition, you'll enjoy learning the hula during a lesson provided by a young hula dancer. Everyone gets into the act during the river cruise!

Smith's famous Wailua River cruise boats are powered by an ingenious rear-engine system invented by Walter Smith, Sr.  The spacious, open-air boats provide excellent views from either side during the trip upstream.

The Wailua River is known as “the only navigable river” in all Hawaii. The river’s fresh water pours down from Mt. Wai‘ale‘ale, one of the wettest spots on the planet. Lands along the river were the sacred capital of ancient Kauai and the birthplace of the island’s ali‘i, or royalty.

At the Fern Grotto landing, you’ll enjoy a short nature walk through the rainforest to the lush Fern Grotto.

The Fern Grotto is a geological wonder of Kauai. Ferns grow upside down from the roof of the grotto, which was formed millions of years ago. Native Hawaiian plants and colorful exotic tropical plants provide a rain-forest atmosphere
